Amazon seeks votes for nonprofit award

Amazon.com asked visitors to vote on a list of 10 finalists for its Nonprofit Innovation Award. At stake is up to $1 million in matching funds for the winner. The finalists, "nonprofits whose innovative approaches and breakthrough solutions most effectively improve their communities or the world at large," were selected in conjunction with the Center for Social Innovation at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business and other advisers. Visitors can vote by contributing to the nonprofits on the Amazon site through Sept. 30. Amazon will match the winner's contributions up to $1 million.

The finalists are Appalachian Sustainable Development, Community Voice Mail, DonorsChoose, EARN, First Book, KaBOOM, KickStart, Pact's WORTH program, PATH and Teach For America. Amazon's advisers in selecting the nominees included Muhammad Ali, Henry Kissinger and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.
