Amazon debuts author hall of fame

Amazon.com has drawn up a list of 25 best-selling authors as part of a celebration of its 10th anniversary later this month. The names of the writers who will be the part of a newly created Amazon Hall of Fame were chosen based on sales of their books by the e-tailer over the past decade, the company said Thursday.

Similar lists of top-selling musicians and DVDs will be revealed on July 11 and July 13, respectively. J. K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, led the list. William Shakespeare just missed being on the list, giving up the 25th position to Tom Clancy, known for best-selling books such as "Patriot Games" and "The Hunt for Red October." Amazon is also running a "Wish List Spree" sweepstakes, giving out prizes worth up to $5,000.
