AltaVista takes a meeting

Digital Equipment today announced a new version of its Internet-based conferencing tool, which allows teams and workgroups to hold virtual meetings from any Web browser.

Newly added features in AltaVista Forum 2.0 include the ability to conduct live polling, manage lists of forum members, and set up appointments on a shared calendar. This upgrade also adds support for IRC chatrooms and CU-SeeMe videoconferencing.

The software runs on Unix, Windows NT, and Sun Solaris systems in conjunction with most widely-used Web servers. AltaVista Forum 2.0 will ship at the end of this month. Pricing is set at $495 for each group of 25 users or $3,995 for an unlimited number of users for single-processor servers. Each additional processor on the server will cost $2,395.
