Merger of Equals? Is thar the new PC word for Buyout?
by Tex Murphy PI April 2, 2006 11:35 AM PDT
Let's get real - Alcatel is BUYING Lucent. The last "Merger or Equals" was when Daimler bought off Chrysler - and we all know how "Equal" that transaction was.

Why don't they just call it as it really is? Alcatel BUYING out Lucent?

In principle, I think the US government should kill that deal - given how the French Government has enacted laws that prevent foreign companies from purchasing French assets.

Lucent, formerly AT&T Bell Labs was the company that
invented the transistor, cell phones, etc. They were
the premier research institute in this country. The
outsourcing of our finest assets is a consequence of
the current administrations incompetence. It is
unfortunate for America. Perhaps, in the end, the
terrorists indirectly achieved their goals. The more
the neo-conservative religious right-wing imposes
its agenda, the more we lose.
