Akonix Systems on Monday delivered an appliance for instant messaging security, compliance and management. The Akonix L7 CM5000 is a standard 1U rack-mountable server that runs Windows Server 2003 on an Intel Pentium 4 processor and ships with the Akonix L7 Enterprise and Akonix Enforcer software preloaded and preconfigured, the IM security company said in a statement.
The Akonix system offers protection against IM viruses and worms as well as malicious files sent via the file transfer feature in IM clients. Additionally, the software helps control IM within an organization by blocking unauthorized use and eliminating anonymous use (by linking with corporate directories). It also helps with compliance by logging IM chats, Akonix said. The system is available from Akonix and its partners and costs $10,000 plus user license fees, a company representative said.
