It's going too far

It absolutely stuns me that people would argue FOR the continued "dumbing down" of North American society. Wake up people, China, Japan, most of modern Europe, they are KICKING our butts in terms of a percentage of educated population. But we find the time to argue that "peeps" should be acceptable grammar. Amazing.

Trying to justify the addition of words like "peeps" and "'em" to our lexicon through mediums like search-related contextual advertising is mind-boggling. I'm glad that Google, in partnership with advertisers, grammar experts, and its ad sales team, has developed an official style guide for ads that appear on its site and other sites through its AdSense publisher network. It's actually too bad that newspapers don't have the same kind of grammatical standards that Google does, when it comes to ads in the "classifieds" section of a newspaper.

As you might expect, I completely agree with Glen's comment above.

Cheers,
Doug
