Tip of the Iceberg

Good article - thanks, C|NET. It's about time someone called attention to the snowballing problems at Adobe. This one concerns their most secure application, Reader. Wait'll hackers take a serious shot at Flash et al. Flash, the darling of Web 2.0, is a mess with highly critical patches delayed or still unpatched for unacceptably long time periods.

The article's writer mentions Adobe's rarely needed to offer many patches in past years which is completely true. But now they own Macromedia and delightful as its applications like Flash maybe, these applications are highly exposed to denial of service and other highly critical vulnerabilities.

Adobe, now that they're big shots with so many acquisitions, had best get with it and support their software in a manner that Mozilla, Microsoft, Apple et al do.

A monthly patch cycle a la MS would be an idea.

Glad I use Linux and evince to read PDF docs.

Evince is far faster than Acrobat or Reader, has none of the CPU-sucking bloat, and reads 'em without a problem.

/P

I'm glad I don't use Acrobat or iTunes, two of the most bloated and annoying applications for stealing system resources without end user knowledge out there today.

There are plenty of alternatives to Acrobat Reader. It's time for people to stop being sheep and see what's out there.
