Acer
Their tender offer is not a done deal. I hope the one key antagonist holds out and make Acer pack it's bags and go home.

Acer is a good company...
Acer is a public company and has no government involvment. I'd like to see it succeed. Hoever Acer needs to do a great job integrating Gateway and beef up its quality and support in the US.

There were a good brand...
Back when I was in the PC biz they were a solid maker. I like that they are still around. I can't say I've liked their products in quite some time.

What they really should do is give Acer stock to the Gateway sharholders. The crappy tender offer for a company that just returned to profitabilty hopefully falls on it's face. Actually I hope the whole deal falls on it's face. Gateway needs to compete and Acer needs to compete. Neither should just buy market share. They need to make good products and back them up.

Something few companies seem to do anymore. (My new Gateway ships back to the factory for troubleshooting tomorrow).

Leary about Acer
Back in '95-97 Acer was nearly as crappy of a company as Packard Bell. Both were run out of the American PC market for selling garbage computers. It wouldn't surprise me that Acer would want to buy Packard Bell, because Packard Bell had the worst reputation of all computer companies. They had so many lawsuits against them you couldn't count em all.
My opinion, marriage made in hell. I hope those two companies make better products than what they did in the past.

Packard Bell made inexpensive computers.
I owned a number of them. I never had a problem with one.
