AT&T reaches E911 deal with FCC

AT&T Wireless will pay $100,000 to federal regulators for missing a recent deadline to make it possible for emergency call center operators to locate cell phones dialing 9-1-1, the Federal Communications Commission said. Almost all wireless carriers missed the October deadline to begin adding this E911 technology to their networks. Cingular Wireless and AT&T Wireless so far have been the only two carriers that the FCC began enforcement hearings against. Cingular Wireless reached a similar deal in May.
