AT&T Wireless to talk about takeover rumors

AT&T Wireless intends to break its silence on Thursday about the last few weeks of rumors that it is for sale, according to a source. The carrier is for sale, according to various media accounts based on anonymous sources, which analysts believe signals the beginning of a long-awaited consolidation of America's hypercompetitive cell phone market. The carrier plans to address the rumors during its fourth-quarter earnings conference call on Thursday morning, which was originally supposed to take place on Jan. 29.
