The annoying Twitter ...
The microblog idea is valuable for people who are reporters on the road and are discussing / researching stories etc. in groups (ala LiveJournal). It allows for an immediate interaction with a group that provides for a "RealTime" discussion on an article etc... Sending to mobile phones (as in posting to all that have subscribed) is clearly crucial. I would be surprised that this site would not launch with the option.

I do not have the privilege to have seen the app though ...
