Article miss leads on GPS as 2d

The GPS finds locations in 3d space IF there are four beams received. With a few exceptions where the satellites result in indeterminate positions. Then a few minutes will have them move far enough to give real 3d Lat, Long, and elevation.

I use them in car, hiking, Bike rides and afloat. If you have window seat in aircraft it works at least to 600 Knots. That is the fastest ground speed I have seen on a commercial aircraft. Thanks to jet stream. It saves fuel too, as the pilot can reduce engine power. The way back is another story.
Intel came first

Don't get it backwards. Intel built a wi-fi-based location-determination system long before Skyhook got into this game: see placelab.org
