Only out of necessity

The credit card associations and processors don't get hurt by fraud. Only the merchants do. VISA, MasterCard, AmEx and the processing banks just end up charging merchants more - they don't lose money. I'm sure the only reason VISA and MasterCard are taking this initiative is because they are worried that people will stop using credit cards.

...the fines! It's also an opportunity to collect more $$$ with the fines they assess! Who empowered the financial institutions to make their own laws and levy fines as punishment for transgressors?

This is an outrage!
This crap is going to cause a raise in prices for everything we buy!
This is government inflicted price inflation.
Are you feeling protected yet??
I for one am going to call my merchant services (Sterling Payment Technologies) and tell 'em to come get all their equipment and close my account.
I'll also cutting up all my credit cards and will boycott credit card companies from now on.
I will also give my customers a 12% discount for shopping with checks and cash since I will no longer be accepting credit cards.

If we as a people are to ever throw off the yokes that government continually tries to get us to wear, we must be willing to sacrifice some alleged security to regain our liberties.

I no longer CHOOSE to deal with credit card companies.
