- The only thing out there that's killing the net is a combination between politics and the online advertising industry. What the net needs to survive requires alot less of both of these. The problem is however, they both will get even worse as time goes on.......THIS is what will shut down the net.

- The internet has already fallen into the tv mode i.e. its dead. The only thing important about the internet from a user's perspective is content (content defenition is up to you.). In my opinion we've already lost to the non content providers. we've allowed what took 50 years with tv to happen in 10 years on the internet. The beancounter are in charge and buying up the senators in the name of profit. The result has been confusing lies passed off as press releases , commercial sites that wouldn't pass any ethics test, politicians posting thier lies i.e. total crap.

(4 Comments)Advertisements will not destroy the net - they'll fund what it will become.
Just like television, radio, etc.
Ads destroyed neither of them - some people even watch certain events just for the advertisements: Superbowl
The only bright spot is the beancounters have no idea what they're doing and there's plenty of bright people willing to move the net from it's current incarnation to the next version (where hopefully the people will keep control and insist that you have to have some redeming value if your going to insist on forcing it down peoples throats). This certainly applies to m$ recent announcement that they are dropping out of the UN standards body. Their hope is that they can continue to sell word when there are viable alternatives by keeping their so called standards and freezing out the competition.
