A passport by any other name

This is a government issued document, used by international travelers to authenticate themselves at a border checkpoint.
Why not just call it an electronic passport?

CNET reporter should have made his homework better. A hand recognition based-system is available in Tel-Aviv airport since 5 years.
No need for passport - just swipe your card and place your hand in the optical reader.
