"little black boxes....."
and this.......
So many people aren't getting it. There will be absolutely no way to tell the differance between good and bad. The differance between government monitoring and a hackers remote control from half way accross the globe is being called into question here. There is so much potential for so many bad things to happen....so much potential for so many people to opperate above the law and basicly do whatever they want. The average citizen will not have the choice, it will be forced. Security, privacy, freedom of individual choice, free speech....it is all being dissolved. People buy into it under the false impression that it's a good thing.
My ability to have:
a car without airbags, computers, or even fuel injection
a computer without XP
music without RIAA scrutiny
movies without MPAA scrutiny
a restroom brake at a raodside gas staion without my supervisors' scrutiny
my political views heard without the federal government automaticly struck down
my television veiwing, internet surfing, radio listening, product purchasing habits without being tracked by the advertising industry
my choice of particular computer software updates without being forced into it
The list just goes on and on.....
It should be my choice of my freewill. Regardless of wether or not something is safer, better, or held as the populor vote. I DEMAND my freedom to choose for myself. There are certain things I could choose....like having nothing to do with brand new cars, having nothing to do with computers or the internet, etc., but then that would mean my exclussion from the entire human race...almost like being Amish (all this really kinda makes one wonder if the Amish are really better off).

- "Despite these potential pathways, creating a virus that would spread within the car would be no small feat. In the Windows-dominated PC universe, "the programmer only has to know the PC processor" to do damage"

- The Auto industry is free to do just about whatever they want with their product in this regard. Its your option not to buy any car you dislike for any reason. Microsoft is not the problem here. In fact, if you pay attention to the article, you will see that there IS no problem here. Once again, leave it up to CNET to rile the masses with pure speculation.

(10 Comments)This would all change if Microcrap gets its way. Once the car runs on Windows, we are all doomed. The auto industry can not let this power hungry company with a dismal security past take control of our autos.
JUST SAY NO TO THE M$ KOOLAID!
ITS THEORETICALLY POSSIBLE! EVERYBODY NEEDS TO BE SCARED FOR THEIR LIVES! TECHNOLOGY CAN HURT US! RUN AWAY! RUN AWAY!
