Among those embracing the open-source operating system is a manufacturer that had previously rejected the penguin.

$400 for a dumb terminal that can do no processing.

Now that's genious.

Thin clients have failed to catch on time and time again. Gee, lets invest in this idea just once more... please??

Paying hundreds of dollars for machine that doesn't do anything by itself IS rediculus. However... Open Source is there to help. I've been using Thinstation for quite a bit now and it's working out great. Easy to configure and set up and works with just about any operating system server. http://thinstation.sourceforge.net

As usual, if there is a problem, there is an open-source solution.

This thin-client software is nothing special. Its just another thin-client OS. Except now it can sit on a more powerful computer while it clogs the network with unnecessary traffic.

They theory of dedicated thin-client networks went out of favor with mainframes, and I have yet to see any strong justification for bringing it back. New implementations of old ideas, whether proprietary or open-source have not changed the landscape one bit.
