Excellent.

If the server side is opening, then let's have a true metaverse where the xml messaging works with any online world regardless of the vendor if they support the standards. Work with the Web3DC to ensure the standards have longevity.

Good move.

It would keep costs down to interchange media and XML info across other projects and sources like say, Wikipedia-Media information.

"mailing/calling" between realities
by jabbotts January 9, 2007 7:38 AM PST
That'd actually be pretty cool to see people able to send mail or make "phone calls" between virtual realities. I can't wait for the first Second Lifer's mail to get through to there freind "Yubnub" in the Star Wars Universe MUD.

I think that this move is indicative of Linden Lab's struggle to make Second Life a profitable venture.

You may be right but without some basis of evidence, it's just a shot in the dark. Maybe they are making enough profit that they can earn off the services rather than claim the product to be the software that runs the services.
