Just as Sun Microsystems, IBM should...

... offer its OS/2 Warp Client and OS/2 Warp Server for e-Business Operating Systems for "free" (along with other productivity applications) and name it the "Enterprise Warp System" which would be similar to "Sun's Solaris Enterprise System" all targeting the dominance of the Microsoft Windows Operating System and Office productivity suite just for the fun of it. One can bet the "farm' on this to be a winner for IBM's Global Services! ;-)

Or maybe not....

I used to use OS/2, and it was great for it's day, but let's be honest. The mainstream hardware and software support just isn't there anymore. IBM killed it all off. Yeah, I know, people could write drivers, software, blah, blah, blah, blah... Here's a question... Why? It just doesn't make sense at this point, when we have Windows, Linux, MacOSX, and now Solaris, as modern operating systems. It would probably be a nightmare porting it to the 64bit platforms, just as porting Windows was for M$ (they ended up hiring Unix programmers to help out because they couldn't get it right on their own. The thing is, yes, OS/2 was stable. Yes, it was well liked amonst those that could afford it. But it is no longer a modern operating system.

So exactly what would be the point in IBM releasing OS/2 as OSS?
