Comments on: Google Maps + Apple Magic Mouse = fail

My experience with Google Maps not getting along with Apple's multitouch mouse was really annoying. But in the last couple weeks, it's become intolerable.

I do to. Very portable. I don't think it's as comfortable a grip as a mouse with a more rounded shape (took about a week to get accustomed to it) but significantly easier to use than a micromouse which stores in the same size.

I have had a Magic Mouse for some time and often use Google Maps several times a week without any issues. No matter what I do, I simply cannot replicate what the article describes.

I wanted that mouse. I thought it looked so cool. I was in the store trying it out and actually crushed it. So my big hands evidently are not meant for that thing. The guy on the floor was surprised, but not that surprised that I cracked it, which is a surprise to me.

Just like they will have to pry a game controller from my cold dead hands before I ever use motion controls for gaming; they will have to pry from my cold dead hands my wireless logitech laser mouse that is perfect in every way. Don't fix what isn't broken.

Apple makes some really good products, but the one-button mouse design is NOT one of them! I used to do a lot of text editing and layout on a Mac, and it was infuriating to try to use the one-button mouse. It's basically a useless device, forcing the user to also use keyboard shortcuts to get the job done.

There is a certain arrogance at Apple that refuses to admit that anything they didn't invent is a good idea. I realize that Apple basically invented the mouse interface system, and that 30 years ago, one mouse button was all you need. But in the here and now, a two-button mouse is essential, and it's a shame Apple refuses to play along.

The Magic Mouse IS a two-button mouse with scrolling down the center. It's a pretty elegant piece of hardware. Unfortunately, I couldn't deal with all the gestures, so I went back to a Logitech mouse.

I agree with those commenters who judge the Magic Mouse to be the source of your problem. The same phenomenon is at work in a host of devices that are all moving toward a control-free, touch-oriented user interface. If you press too hard, or slide your finger too much, the device - smartphone, tablet, computer, whatever - does surprising things, things that you didn't intend. Sometimes those inadvertent actions are harmless, but other times you find text erased, files missing, and sometimes you don't notice the action until it's too late.

I wouldn't have that Magic Mouse, or its Microsoft equivalent, if you gave me one. Most of the touchpads that I use on laptops have their gestures disabled, and the tap-to-click function severely restricted. I can touch something delicately, if necessary, but it's not a reliable way for me to compute. Give me a button, a wheel, or some other physical control - all this touchy-feely junk is way too much. And I won't even get started on my feelings about the Windows 8 obsession with touch...

Actually I have used all platforms for thirty years as well and I agree with warbobby1 as well. There's no doubt that Apple has come out with some first rate stuff for years, but this isn't one of them. It's clearly an attempt to make something that is, "like, all, DUDE and stuff," instead of something that can be used.

Only thing about Apple that sucks is its stupid design over comfort mice. I buy a cheap $20 mouse for all my Mac's and never have one problem. Sometimes trying to hard to fix what is not broken is Apple's biggest failure.

I dont like the magic mouse. I prefer the magic trackpad over it, because it is easier for apple gestures and whatnot.

What's this love with the mouse at all? I've got to have a decent sized area no matter which brand it is just to use it. Meanwhile I have been using trackballs for years and can't live without it. Takes no/little desk area yet all the buttons in the world for anything I want. Maybe this time the mousetrap wasn't made better. Apple normally makes great stuff but they're entitled to make a looser every now again. Don't we all mess up? Sorry to hear it was on an item we had such hopes for.
