Is the shuttle program trying to tell us something? Are we listening?

To answer your stupid question, from Commander Mark Polansky: "It's a reminder that spaceflight is NOT routine."

No surprise. The people who work on the shuttle make more money the more problems there are. As a result of this "leak" thousands of people will get overtime and additional work hours. The "space shuttle" is just a government boondoggle that's been going on for 30 years. This is what you get when the incentives are totally wrong. Cancel NASA. It's just welfare for scientists. The exploration of space is too important to be left to the government.

It appears it's fortunate that Endeavour wasn't needed as a rescue shuttle for Atlantis's Hubble mission.
