I thought I'd give everyone here the links just in case all their servers crash starting at 10AM PT. (Which I don't doubt, they're just being cocky now) Definitely re-download after 10AM PT for the record tho!

"IE is the browser of choice for more people on the Web than anything else," ==

What part of "It came bundled" do you not understand?

It's a valid comment, but people need to keep in mind that Safari comes bundled with OS X and Firefox with Ubuntu.

When people are given the choice to use whatever they want- and with Firefox freely available to anyone on the internet, it's hard to make the justification that because the application is bundled that it is the *only* choice they have.

Dan - not true on Ubuntu and most Linux distros. You can specify it or not during installation, or choose another browser entirely (Opera, Konqueror, etc). With Windows, you have no choice - you get IE with Windows, or you don't get Windows at all.

Vegetable Head: You are also forgetting that most windows users don't really know what a browser is and that options exist.

Wow, if you have such a problem with Firefox just get the hell out of here. Keep your ****** browser, operating system, viruses, etc. Just shut the **** up!

Unfortunately this sort of comment puts a black eye on the reputation of Firefox users that isn't deserved.

Your idioct VegeHead, on the other hand, puts even more of a very deserved black eye on MS

Dude - chill. The MSFT employees and astroturfers will always be with us... at least until MSFT finally dwindles into insignificance.
by Seaspray0 June 17, 2008 10:36 AM PDT
Perhaps the early adopters will be wiling to provide us with some honest opinions of what they think of it. I wouldn't mind hearing them... except for michael therrien (who I doubt would see any problems or wouldn't be honest). I would prefer honest opinions: what you like or don't like about it. In the past, the biggest issue I had was with the rendering (sometimes things not aligning properly). Let me know if that has been improved. From the article, the speed should be really good. Let us know.

Why not try it? What is with the need to have your hand held? It costs nothing and if you don't like it uninstall it.
by Penguinisto June 17, 2008 9:35 PM PDT
Works just fine here, on three OSes (Linux --Ubuntu and Fedora Core--, XP, and OSX Leopard).

1hr (11am pst) later and the FF home page (when it does load) still links to v2.0 and 3.0RC3 and the in-browser update fails with malformed XML.

Mozilla=Epic Fail.

3 million + downloads later (and over 12 hours to go) says otherwise ;)

I downloaded and installed FF3 though my distros package manager. So far so good. Fast, sleek and stable!

Firefox have really done well with the branding and marketing of their browser. A lot of nerds consider Firefox "cool". Although I agree it's a great browser, I'm really surprised Opera doesn't have a bigger slice of the pie. Opera is an awesome browser, and I highly recommend you give it a try thoroughly, for a couple of weeks at least.

Opera isn't as big because of the fact that they used to charge money for it or force ads on you. The first version is critical in gaining mind share and opera failed in that regard. No matter how good Opera is or what they do in the future, the lack of mind share has doomed them to also ran status.

"IE is the browser of choice" - this is the sort of spin that lowers opinion of MS. IE is the browser by default for windows users. It is not a browser of choice. Exclude people who don't care/don't have a clue about browser options and non IE browsers would easily be the choice.

I've been testing the top 3 and using Minefield the FF3 nightly.

For one IE & Safari (win) have claimed to pass the Acid2 test and in truth both have failed. FF3 has past that milestone 6 months ago.

http://acid3.acidtests.org/

time / % correct

FF3 5.75secs / 71%
Safari (win) 10.3secs / 72% but importantly fails the link test
IE8 Beta1 fails / 18% and what a bloody mess

http://acid2.acidtests.org/

FF3 prefect
Safari prefect in latest version but failed in a previous version that Apple claimed to pass
IE total crap, nothing like correct despite MS claims that they passed Acid 2 before Christmas

What does all this tell you?

1. Only Mozilla have been honest and open about where they are at and haven't needed to resort to lies.

2. That IE is so far out of the ball park that even passing Acid 2 by the release date is a push.

It pathetic that MS who are only doing a browser for one OS Windows which they own all of the code can't manage to even keep up with FF who are covering all the major OSes. It show that if MS can even manage Acid 2 and have to lie about passing when they so clearly don't that the corporation is in serious trouble. If what we are seeing with FF is any indication then it's no wonder Windows is plagued with errors.

Now why do you think Linux is the first choice for big time web operators and not Windows? Is it just price?

It's got to make you wonder if our mutual future isn't going to be with Linux. If for no other reason than as IT professional the lies from MS and the excuses are starting to wear very thin.

Wow I have it and this is the best browser ever.I hate IE it's slow and old. This makes any computer looks like it has a shot of ram juice are something.I mean a old 32mb of ram computer would work fast like its a 1gb of ram with this if you have it.I mean it makes my 256mb seems like it 3gb ram plus all the extras it has as tabbing and a bunch of new looking interfaces.I would not get another browser EVER! no matter what anyone says and come out with. The best ever.So if you get it I guarantee you its the best and you would say the same.No browser can come near it forget it.Say goodbye to all others and hello mozilla.I commend you all for a job well done. And if someone says different and I have seen all and had all browsers you can thank of.And none will come close. And if you say this browser is not then you have not been on a computer are the net long.I challenge anyone to say it is not the best.Anyone.I will state this anytime and will say it and everyone else who gets this browser. If you don't get it then you are losing bigtime!!! I mean bigtime!! YOu want be disappointed ever.No glitches no problems nothing!!Thank you MOZZILLA FOR SAVING US!!

One of the best features of Firefox (in my view) is the plug in SCRAPBOOK. Fantastic for downloading and using complete web pages off line. AND, it uses very little space to store those sometimes 4 or more level pages.

I haven't found any other place to pass this info on, so here goes. I have Vista Ultimate -64. I have been attempting to try Firefox 3 from its earliest betas, through it release candidates and even the final release. In each case, Firefox 3 crashes immediately, then fails to send the crash report. Along the way I expected the problem to be solved, but it never was. Maybe it is something specific to my PC, but I haven't found any other way to notify Mozilla of this problem.
Thank you for your patience.
