The activist group heats up its feud with the social network by alleging that it had once planned to make its controversial "Beacon" advertising more privacy-friendly, but then decided not to.

The power of the almighty dollar
by dargon19888 November 26, 2007 11:59 AM PST
This is really more of a story about how a company can take a "web 2.0" site and turn it in to revenue.

If you don't like what Facebook is doing, then move on and don't use the site.

What a joke--"Democracy in Action"
by WJeansonne November 26, 2007 12:26 PM PST
Moveon.org are more like liberal or left-wing rats in action! And what a joke. This freakish group's name is based on the premise that Americans should move on or put the Clintons behind us. Well, look where that got us! Now, we have the other half of the devil running for office now. Uggh.

Very close... The term 'move on' comes from their desire for the nation to 'move on' from the Lewinsky scandal.

But I like your version better - putting the Clintons behind us!
Duh

Having things your way for the last 7 years has shown all of us that we need to move on from the corruption and lies committed by the previous Republic congress and the Administration. They sucked and still suck! Time to move on!

If MoveOn.org doesnt like facebook...
by LuvThatCO2 November 26, 2007 2:25 PM PST
...then thats reason enough for me to LIKE facebook.

Who cares what a group of neo-stalinists think? Groups like theirs are the most intolerant groups you'll ever encounter. Go over to one and post something that doesnt adhere 100% to their prevailing dogma, and see how you get impaled for your thought-crime.

It is good to see the shills out in force defending outrageous breaches of privacy.
You are just as bad

Your name-calling cancels your argument.
MoveOn's impact
by TaintDeli November 26, 2007 3:31 PM PST
Whether or not you agree with MoveOn's actions, at least they are bringing this issue to the public's attention. Obviously Facebook has chosen to downplay it's actions and has not provided an easy avenue to opt out. How many unsuspecting users would have no idea that this data was being collected and made public?

Aside from that, I'm surprised to see so many people bashing MoveOn here-- I would expect to see more liberals chiming in. This is a tech site reporting on a social networking site whose main demographic is college students. Interesting...

Did we read the same story?
by goldenvox November 26, 2007 6:39 PM PST
Ok, I see someone read the same article as I. I'm not sure what MoveOn's history is bears relevance to the story. Left wing, right wing, chicken wing is moot. But hey, if you're cool with your privy info being posted, it's your info. Do what you will with it, but wait... it's not you doing anything with it is it?
CNET's choice of words
by timhodgson November 28, 2007 7:50 AM PST
Alright CNET, if you are going to refer to MoveOn.org as "leftist", then you should perhaps read up on what that word really means. True leftists are true communists and socialists, not left-leaning activist groups. I don't think you will find on Moveon's site or literature any statement supporting a socialist or communist overrthrow of the US government.

I'm sick of any media that insists on claiming that any views left of the spectrum is leftist and not mainstream. Fact is that Moveon.org is more centrist than one would think.

If you insist on using the term "leftist", then you need to start calling most coroprations you write about as "rightist" as they seek to strip our governing laws of regulation that inhibit them, thus overthrowing it by making it irrelevant.
