porting of numbers
by vagruppe July 16, 2007 6:19 PM PDT
Had both a business and home line with Sunrocket. My business line was transferred on July 10th (I hope that when the execs are looking for a job people remember your wonderful business ethics). Anyone have any idea if I can get this number back to my local telco? Obviously, all my advertising has this number, so changing this is going to cost money and potential clients.

Sunrocket portability
by jamaicaski July 17, 2007 7:42 AM PDT
Nuvio is offering account transfer and proting:
https://direct.nuvio.com/sunrocket/

I spoke with a rep this morning who said their techs were trying to figure out how to rout through the Gizmo, and they hoped to be able to issue temp numbers later today.

Good luck. I'm in the same boat as you.

So what about us customers?
by dlmtechnology July 16, 2007 7:58 PM PDT
So what about us customers?

I can't access my voicemail as of today, but yet I can still make
and receive phone calls?

Will I get to unlock my GIZMO and take it elsewhere?
Will I be able to port my number to some other company?
When is my service being cut off?

Why didn't we get any notice of this termination?

That explains it!
by jaredcjones July 16, 2007 9:40 PM PDT
Well, that certainly explains why our phone hasn't been working for the past couple of days. Guess we'll have to go back to POTS or Cox Digital Telephone service.

Any service have similar signature number?
by aces68 July 17, 2007 5:50 AM PDT
Does any other Voip have something like SunRocket's signature number that rings to the same phone but has it's own voicemail? I called ViaTalk but you have to have two phones to get two separate voicemailboxes.

Sun Rocket Closes Doors
by Barbara Henry July 17, 2007 9:24 AM PDT
It is ad that Sun Rocket has to close its business. It is never good when a free enterprise business folds.
Perhaps if Sun Rocket had been more focused on Customer Satisfaction, the Company may still be in business.

Choosing a new provider
by caiger July 18, 2007 9:18 PM PDT
Choosing a new provider, especially after being burnt by Sunrocket is going to be tough. I found whichvoip.com to be a good site, which has a page detailing not only the latest news on Sunrockets bankruptcy but also providers that are giving special deals to sunrocket customers. Check out http://www.whichvoip.com/voip/sunrocket.htm

Great Comparison Site
by NoNonCents July 20, 2007 10:57 AM PDT
I came across a site that compares the leading SunRocket alternatives for switching your service. It seems Vonage, Voip.com, and Viatalk are the top providers and can easily port your SR numbers. I just called the 800 for Vonage from this site and got an extra month free (now 2 months of free service) and free activiation and shipping. Couldn't pass up that deal.

The site is - http://www.consumercompare.org/voip/comparesunrocket.php

Good Luck

Not VoIP all the way
by jeremyvinzon July 28, 2007 4:50 AM PDT
I made a mistake of replacing my land line and going voip all the way but it was a lesson learned for me. I am getting a land line again and just signed up with Onesuite.com for my long distance calls. BTW, I just learned that they got a VOIP feature also and for only $2.95 a month I'll get a second line and save on my calls at the same time.

One thing I am sure of is I will never pay $200 in advance for a 12 month service plan.

Alternative to SunRocket customers
by Jaxon Rivera August 12, 2007 10:46 PM PDT
I too went browsing to find out the best alternative VoIP provider. Finally, I noticed the promotional offers of Lingo for SunRocket customers located at http://www.lingo.com/shop/promotions/sunrocket.jsp. I feel this could be a better option for SunRocket customers who wish to sign up with an affordable VoIP service provider.

Go with a provider like Lingo
by Caryl RaeKrannich August 15, 2007 10:03 PM PDT
I have signed up with Lingo two months ago. Till now, everything goes finely well. They are also presently offering international calling plans at lower rates for former SunRocket customers. Supported by one of the largest telecom firms like Primus, Lingo is a financially stable VoIP provider which can offer unlimited calling plans for both home and business applications. You will get a local telephone number to call your friends and relative in the UK, even if you are anywhere in US. Moreover, any Lingo subscriber can order International Phone Numbers for 14 countries. Their calling plans to Western European countries, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Canada, and South Korea are unlimited and flexible.

Lingo Small Talk calling plan
by billy mathew August 19, 2007 8:02 PM PDT
I was a former SunRocket customer but now switched to Lingo owing to its poor quality of service. At present, Lingo is very good alternative VOIP service for SunRocket customers to switch on. Even its $14.95 economical Small Talk calling plan gives you the best value for your money. This plan is fully packed with great features such as 500 day and night calling minutes to make calls to US, Canada, and Puerto Rico, free unlimited calling to other in-network lingo subscribers, local number portability, online account management plus all the advanced and basic features.

I've had the service for several months. You can't beat the price for the features you get. I had all kinds of problems in the beginning with dropped calls. I emailed customer service and they replied within hours. One of the ports on the back of the Gizmo was bad. They sent a new one that arrived in a few days. I still had dropped calls and lost internet connectivity (Time Warner). I read that my 2.4 ghz router might be interfering with my phones on the same frequency. I bypassed the router and unplugged it. The problem actually got worse. I finally found the magic bullet. I plugged the gizmo into a LAN port on my router, and kept the modem in the WAN port on the router. The gizmo is now part of my network - not the controlling device. Since then, no dropped calls or lost connectivity with the internet. It's been several days, so hopefully this has fixed the problem. Now I can really enjoy this feature rich, inexpensive service.
