Great article Rafe. I am a big fan of Pownce, but it's funny to see the users treat it like a Twitter. Pownce doesn't ask "What are you doing?", but some people are programmed to tell these sites what they're doing. Pownce just asks you to share files with your friends.

The biggest complaint I have about Pownce is that when I comment on someone's note, it goes to everybody. Otherwise, it's real smooth.

TeleTwitter for desktop

TeleTwitter available here:

http://code.google.com/p/teletwitter/

is a great desktop Twitter app that you might take a look at. It's a heck of a lot more attractive than Twitteroo, it has built in URL shortening (Alt+t), easy access to direct messages, and it just works flawlessly.

I HIGHLY recommend it.

Thanks Rafe, this was really interesting to me. Thanks to Andrew I've got a Pownce account now and I was just asking myself the same question!
