Rafe, I took a very critical eye to this, my review is here:

I think some of your points are valid about the long-tail but at the same time, how will he keep those 10k pages updated?

And unfortunately, I seem to be the only one to comment about the SEO game play this is.

Oh well.

Not another Open Directory Project...
by shawshawshaw May 30, 2007 9:29 PM PDT
I dunno about this one. I used to be an editor over at Newhoo, which became Dmoz, which became The Open Directory Project.

The whole site became a nightmare, with corporate control interference (the company dictated certain edits -- not people), to companies coming in to edit webpage positions. That and dissenting viewpoints were not allowed within ODP whatsoever.

So no, I doubt I would get involved with anything like that ever again. I don't know how this new site would be any different.

The better people powered search engine: Anoox
by kathy_torez June 29, 2007 8:21 AM PDT
Hi,

This Mahalo is not a real people powered search engine at all!
It is like Wikipedia at best, that is so called Editors really control the results and the people have no real or immediate effect on the results. If you want the real "People powered search engine", then try AnooX (www.anoox.com). With Anoox real people in real time change the search results via their Vote. Also Anoox is a community based (not for profit) search engine so price of Advertising on Anoox is a lot lower than for profit ones like Goo & Yoo.
