Google has taken the crown from Microsoft for copying other people's idea.

Google plans a party next week on Friday.

Yahoo's VP of product search doesn't understand search

"For a lot of the queries we have the same multimedia content,
we just don't make it as quick to access."

"If Yahoo had done that a lot of people would have said you are
cluttering it up? slowing things down ? When Google does it, it
sets the standard."

It's incredible that someone in charge of a search product would
make these statements. Google has had search across different
media for a long time too. Making the different media instantly
accessible to the user is not just a minor and unimportant
feature of its new universal search, but the defining feature.

By implementing the changes subtly, without cluttering the
interface and with no loss in speed, most users will get
significant benefit without even consciously noticing any
changes. And that?s the point. It?s good user experience.
Dismissing the significance of the changes is disingenuous. And
blaming Google?s success on user bias against Yahoo is pathetic
coming from a VP.

Reading Walther?s comments, it?s not hard to see why Google
provides a superior search experience for its users.

It's all in the experience
by ghostofitpast May 18, 2007 9:28 AM PDT
I think it is important to recognize the quality of the "search experience" as at least one of the deciding factors. In the past I have not always been keen on how Google assesses that experience, but I have to admit that they got it right this time! Since AT&T is my ISP, many of my Web pages have a bias towards Yahoo!; but I find I have been ignoring that bias most of the time. Indeed, the overall Yahoo! "experience" does not seem to be keeping up with things very well; and I thought they were supposed to be paying more attention to that overall experience than to just search!
Results first, then presentation

Yahoo search may well have started offering blended results before Google.

But, IMO, their search results are not as good as Google's and they are not "as quick".

It's a case of substance over style. Google has the first and is working on the second. Yahoo appears just the opposite.

Google stinks anyways
by niravabhavsar May 18, 2007 12:08 PM PDT
Google search stinks anyways. New improved yahoo search and live search are way better than google search. All other products from google stink too. Their gmail is cluttered - why in the hell would I want to search my mails when I can arrange them but google doesn't want you to arrange them they want you to search them so that they can scan your personal data. I use it only to get junk mail. Another flagship google product such as googletalk is a drag too. It utilizes twice the CPU power than others. It doesn't have video chat nor groups etc. Thank god they closed their version of answers. And, do not forget their worst copyright record. They let users steal videos and then say owners "you need to sort through our list and formally request them to be taken down." and in the meanwhile they make money out of it. What a rip-off. It says "Do not be evil" but they are the biggest evils. bigger than Microsoft.

or... PrePR vs. PR.
by ThunkDifferent.com May 18, 2007 12:10 PM PDT
Yes, there are many forms and styles to pr, but to prep yourself with "pre" pr is to create a buzz before your real news hits. Google is great at prepr, and yahoo is normally on the defense. They are into green marketing however, whereas Google just givespeople they hire a discount if they buya hybrid. Just something to think about...

Google plagiarism
by niravabhavsar May 18, 2007 2:27 PM PDT
"Google's new interface offers thumbnails for videos that play the video clip on the page when clicked on instead of just offer links to pages where the videos can be viewed. Also, Google is incorporating local search results, with maps and local listings related to searches among the results in the redesign."

Yes, that means more breaches of rights of the copyright holders. Now they will breach copyrights on google.com instead of YouTube. Too bad creative people who worked hard and created stuff.
