I'm glad that Google is entering the market and I welcome it: I think it's positive 1) for us consumers, in that in puts pressure on Microsoft, Apple, and Linux-developers to improve their respective offerings and 2) for me and other happy Windows users, in that it puts pressure on Microsoft to make that that is already IMO the best OS (Windows) even better; but this?

"Watch out Microsoft: Google's browser project is the foundation for a Web-based operating system. Chrome OS Netbooks are due in 2010."

Anyone with something called "memory" must be already pretty much tired of these "Windows-killers" / "Microsoft-end" announcements, I imagine Microsoft's obvious answer to this free Google advertisement would be "Watch out Google: Windows 7 is the culmination of more than 15 years of dominance, experience, and expertize. Windows 7 netbooks are due in 2009." Google has money, power, and talent, but IMO Google has to watch out Windows 7 more than Microsoft has to watch out Chrome OS (last time I checked, Microsoft was the king in this market).

As a netbook user (I have an ACER ASPIRE ONE), I still chose Windows. It's because I use my netbook both for desktop applications (e.g. MS Office) and web applications (e.g. google docs). I wonder if Google's OS will allow me to run my Windows-based desktop apps. If so, it may be worth the try when it becomes available.
