another one that might not fit really in this category, but is close, is Trillian. I started using Trillian Astra today and it's pretty cool. It combines chat programs, email accounts, video chat programs (ie. skype) facebook, and myspace into a desktop application. Works really well with a web stream for facebook/myspace updates, mail accounts in one section and contacts from all your chat programs in another section. i really really like it.

I just like that it includes chat programs and email programs as well instead of just social networking sites. Check it out.

Don, you forgot Fuser.com - it's still in beta but not only aggregates all your emails (outlook pop3, gmail, yahoo, hotmail) into one, now they are slowly adding in social networking sites. At the moment I believe they have Facebook, Twitter & MySpace running.

TRILLIAN-Astra v4.0!!!!

I think you're missing a great & new(er) product version that is about to go from Beta to GM...I'm loving it and am about to dump my other aggregators completely...and their code will be both Windows AND Mac OS X!

You also forgot Yoono (www.yoono.com) for Firefox and IE. Adds a sidebar to your browser with your aggregated stream, allows you to post updates and share with all of them at once, plus it aggregates IM as well.

So glad I don't use any of these social networks. Sounds like such a waist of my valuable life. I will go do something meaningful and walk my dog now.

Nice article and many useful references, I am one of the early adopters of Digsby and always love using it after being a fan of Pidgin for some time.

@clnx: I have to disagree with you that social networking is a just time waster, IMHO it has more benefits than networking, may be you could read - "http://www.fastcompany.com/blog/lon-safko/ten-commandments-social-media/social-networks-more-networking" to understand how social networking can help you , just a thought :).

I work for a company GizaPage.com that helps people manage their social networking profiles under single identity and using a personalized url, tools like this can save time for individuals to organize, manage their social identity at one place while helping businesses, non-profits and government to organize their social presence under one umbrella to have better visibility and reach.

Social web has many benefits for all of us :)

Thanks
Vijay
