It seems obvious how Twitter can make money: charge these other companies to use its APIs. Obviously, a small number of hits would be free, to help encourage and support development. But if you've got 1000s of users then you pay Twitter. Twitter could also give priority to paying customers (tiered Twitter, anyone?)

The owners of Twitter should sell to google and retire for the rest of their lives.
