I tweeted not long ago that I was in the market for a free CRM, so this article ties in nicely with my search, thank you. I tried a few of the more robust packages but am pretty happy with ZohoCRM. It's free for the first 3 users and offers the ability to attach documents (key for my purposes).

I think Webware forgot to mention BuildaSearch.com, a killer search engine creation web app for all sorts of small businesses.

There is also another website that does many of the same things that you mentioned. It's called "The Online Organizer" and is at MyRoladex.com. It has a Contacts Organizer, Appointment Scheduler, Notebook, Bookmarks Organizer, and it is also mobile accessible, and when it is time for your scheduled appointments, the website sends you a text/sms message, and an email, with the details of your appointment. The website is at http://MyRoladex.com

I think you can't leave http://www.google.com/docs behind, and for project management, well maybe a couple years ago Basecamp was the best outhere, but now there a lot project management tool, more powerful and that even cost less like for example http://www.comindwork.com ot http://www.activecollab.com, and there are some decent open source solutions

It would be great to add NomaDesk to this list: NomaDesk allows small businesses to create virtual file servers to store, share, secure and edit their data from anywhere, even off line. Look at it as creating a small office network, connecting all the individual office PC's without the hardware that comes with it.
Full disclosure: I work for NomaDesk... looking forward to your feedback. You can download a free trial on http://www.nomadesk.com

DeskAway (http://www.deskaway.com) should also be added here. It is an excellent tool for project management and collaboration which is web-based. It is providing a lot of additional features that a basic pm tool has like Full export/backup, Complete history, messages, User & Project reports, Analytics, E-mail reminders, completely permission based and much more that too at a very affordable price. Also it has a FREE Plan which has almost all the features that a Paid plan has and moreover the FREE Plan never expires. It is an ideal tool for managing projects & collaboration.

Hey Don,

What about hiring! The Resumator (reviewed on Webware already) takes the pain our of managing incoming resumes. It's built especially for small businesses.

Hi Don--Great post and nice overview. I'd like to add PayCycle to the list. Any small business owner looking for an easy and affordable way to pay employees and manage payroll will love PayCycle. It's all online at www.paycycle.com. It's super-easy to get started with and there's even a free 30-day trial period; PayCycle is PC Mag Editor's Choice for online payroll; seems like a great fit for your list. Thanks!

I'd also add GoToMeeting to this list for webconferencing. As for project management, my personal fave is Wrike. I likes Basecamp, but it charges per project, and I have more than 40 of them at the moment. Wrike charges per user, so it's a more cost-effective solution in my case.

We tried InOut Board and a few others. Then we stumbled on BC In Out Board (www.BillCatchem.net), It also Tweets to Twitter, has wywo and private messages, forums, a wiki, dialing tool for international calls, timesheets... the list goes on. All while remaining true to it's initial use. A simple In Out Board. And get this... If you don't mind a google add, you can use it for free forever. lol!

The down side is that you need a web server. But if you have windows, who doesn't have one of those. No comparison.
