It's easy to be disliked and ignored, but it's quite another to be hated and obsessed over.

If Bill Gates were on the list, he might have won. After all this is the guy who spouted on about "The Information Super Highway" and spoke badly of the Internet. Once he discovered the Internet was the Super Highway (years after many others I might add), and that his pathetic AOL clone called MSN got it wrong, he then tried to own the Internet. First he put Netscape out of business, and when he thought he won the Web, he stopped development on IE and tried to put everyones focus back onto Windows. He then attacked the web server OS which was Linux and Apache and then his nightmare begun. Google arose and become synonymous with the Web and Firefox made inroads into the browser market. Before long, his company had some catch up to do.
Bill nearly single handedly eliminate the Web as a platform, but thank God he lost that one. Thanks to the likes of Google and everyone else who have made it the great platform that it is today.
So I think Bill Gates is actually one of the most hated people on the Internet, although he bought himself some popularity with a charity that just happened to save him tax on money that he had sitting in the bank.

You obviously don't understand the word "hate".

Hate is pretty darn strong, and I don't think you, or anyone else here understands the meaning of the word.

You "dislike" these people, you may find them tasteless, opinionated blowhards...you may have plenty of colorful words for these characters (who are all just nerds living in basements putting on the mask of the anonymous troll, to make themselves look "cooler" by acting cold and indignant)....but you don't hate them. Stop lying to yourself and to others about it.

Hate is reserved for people who truly do dastardly things:

*fake a relationship with some poor emotionally challenged tween on Myspace/Facebook and drive them to suicide

*create websites/blogs about race/gender/age/nationality supremacy, and make death threats to those who disagree with your absurd ideals

*morons who post images and videos of torture and death, and brag about how they like senseless destruction and violence

*companies who overpay for their CEOs/Executives, and who dish out millions for unwanted and unneeded improvements to their personal lives, and then when the inevitable money backlash happens, they take it out on their workforce, cutting jobs and reducing benefits and pay

*greedy and reckless banking firms and loan sharks who have helped put us into this horrible recession, but are the first people to get free money

THESE are people you should hate. Everything else is just a waste of your time and effort.....kind of like this whole "blog culture".

Indeed a list of totally inside-baseball people. If that was the ideia, Andrew Keen would be a great choice, he is indeed hated, but for having actual opinions, not because the way he is, or the cars he buys.

Looks more like a list of people I've never even heard of, and will never hear of again.

If any of these people pop up in your field of vision and you actually recognize them... it can only mean they are out in front of you... and clearly that means you are heading in the wrong direction - or worse you have no direction.

Holy Cow!!! I must have been living in some sort of isolated cave all this time. Sarah Palin I have heard of, but not any of these persons mentioned in this article!

This article is just another case of media types who have an egotistical sense of self importance.
No one really cares who these people are in real life, and their contribution to real life is probably negligible.

I've never heard of any of them, but if any of you do hate any of them, you'll probably annoy them more if you ignore them than if you post about them. They obviously live for the attention and their behaviour is intended to generate attention. They would much rather be told you hate them than to be ignored. They can respond to being told they're hated, but they can't, by definition, reply to being ignored, all they can do is try to bait the people who ignore them and hope someone caves in and stops ignorong them. If no one caves, their baiting will run out of steam as it gets more desperate and more ridiculous. Eventually, they'll embarass even themselves. That might take a while, but who cares since you're ignoring them anyway? It's exactly the same as ignoring a four-year-old who throws tantrums to get attention. If you can outlast him, he'll eventually realize how stupid he looks and will try something other than a tantrum. Of course, it'll be impossible to get everyone to ignore the Five Most Hated, but whether anyone joins me or not, now that I know about them, I'll continue to ignore them as much as I did when I had never heard of them. I don't care if they ignore me, too, or if they try to bait me or if they flame me. I don't even care if they don't know I'm ignoring them -- and that extends to me not caring if anyone replies to this because I'll never see it. :-)

see @most_popular (@twitter.com)

do you love IT or hate IT?

See also my tweet yesterday about the White Rose -- the members of the White Rose were hated by the Nazi Regime.

A friend of mine jokes that some people consider an "enemy of their enemy as their friend" (and he smirks at this). I am happy that we have a truly friendly relationship.

Rafe - come on. What's the point of this article? Slamming people who have struggled and hit the jackpot for a headline. That's low.

What a bunch of pricks. But don't let them upset you. Money, notoriety and fame are all worthless without friends, family and loved ones. Nothing is for ever. Money can be lost in an instant. Fame is fleeting. And, as my dad always says, "The wheel turns" ;-)
