I don't get the "excitement" around browser-based OSes. They've been around for 13 years. Anyone remember MSN TV (formally WebTV)?


by forever4now December 2, 2008 3:01 AM PST: Web applications have evolved significantly since the time of WebTV (e.g. Gmail, Google Docs, etc.), so now, a large percentage of what "average" people do, can be done online. With always-on connections starting to become the norm with 3G, etc., this has the potential to be VERY significant.

For the people who's needs can be satisfied 100% online, they will no longer have to deal with installing/updating/upgrading/debugging Windows and dealing with viruses, spyware and all the other crap associated with Windows. The KISS principle at its best!; Like this

After all, I suspect something like 99.999% of time on a netbook is spent surfing or on email. The 'dual boot' feature is awesome. I was considering buying a Dell Mini9 w/ Ubuntu, but was afraid to take the plunge... Now I think I'll get Windows (in case I need to use Office, etc for work) and use gOS!!!; Like this Reply to this comment
