Why would anyone spend $15/mo per user on something like this, when they can get a hosted Microsoft SharePoint account starting at $20/mo, period, that will do all this plus a lot more ?? There are way too many players in the "online file server" space.

I agree - why would you spend $15 a month on this. I use Amazon S3 - cost me $0.15 per Gigabyte and I spend about $0.30 per month. I use this with SMEStorage.com through their OpenS3 progam and I get access to file sharing, public files, windows explorer, MS Office Plug-Ins, Open Office plug-ins, Facebook integration and much more - for nothing. I also use their integration with Gmail which allows GMail to be used as a storage cloud to backup my S3 files - for free ! So I get all the features, and a cloud backup of my cloud backup (if you get what I mean !) for $0.30 per month - not bad eh !

Yes, if other hosted file server provider gives you same service at low cost, nobody wants to spend more cost for it. I think you haven't heard about OnthenetOFFICE, it provides file server with many more supportive services. I am using Hosted Application from Onthenetoffice.com since last 2 years.
