In response to the brandon ****** bag. (I would be more civil with you if you actually put up an intelligent argument instead of calling me 12), I'm actually 21 and running a business. If you think the economy is doing wonderfully than you are a fool. I am of course referring to my country (U.S.A.), ya know the only one that really matters to me, seeing as how I live in it. And the economy *********** right now. People aren't spending money. But still if you always wait for everything to get cheaper (and by a measly 50 dollars no less), then you will live your whole life having waited to enjoy things. I mean when you die does all that money you saved matter?? No, but at least you can say life was short and I jumped into enjoying things while I could. Plus I am in no debt whatsoever, living on my own and paying my own way. The day your college classes make you somehow better than me I will laugh. And actually I am going to college too on and off. I love how people who go to college think they are better than everyone! I mean that doesn't mean a thing anymore. You can be successful and intelligent never stepping foot in a college classroom. And on the flip side, you can go to school get into hundreds of thousands of dollars into debt, graduate, and then make 30 thousand a year. Lmao. And to make things clear my main argument was that if you can't come up with 50 dollars, like thats what makes or breaks the sale, then why even bother getting in on next-gen gaming. (i guess actually current gen now) Its a frivolous hobby as it is, and if 50 bucks makes a difference in your world, don't get into it.

Why are you guys calling these "next-gen" systems??? These are CURRENT-GENERATION systems. Stop living in the past. P.S. Don't be a cheap ass, just buy the damn system and enjoy it for that time.

"That economic stimulus check you got was to stimulate the economy not the video gaming industry. "

Dumbest comment I've read all day. So you're saying that the videogame industry is not part of the economy??? Every business in the world is part of an economy and the videogame industry is somewhere out in this intangible imaginary space? So what exactly are you going to spend your stimulus check on, I'd REALLY like to hear this.

@gadgetguy, If you would have read all of my past comments you would have seen that I apologized and explained why I called you a 12 year old. And not to come back to that statement, but if you are trying to say you are some 21y/o with a business dont use phrases like "the economy ***********" or "brandon ****** bag". I mean seriously, real mature. You insult me for suggesting your age and then call me some vulger word? I also already said that the economy doesnt revolve around gas and that as much as it truly is a downer, it is not as big of a deal as many make it to be. There is also a debate to be made that it is better for the economy because everyone is purchasing newer, higher priced, fuel efficiant cars. On to the subject of education, saying that in current days you can be perfectly fine, in fact much better off without going to college is possibly the most unintelligent thing I have heard in a few months. Tell almost anybody with 10 years+ schooling and they will most likely just start laughing at you. The whole point of every financial class in high school is to tell kids how much of a mistake it would be to not go to at least a few years of extra school. There are extremly few examples that I am sure you are going to bring up, but just dont. Why? I just said there are extremly few examples therefore the actual chance of you making anywhere close to someone with a just few extra years of education is miniscule. I believe you asked me why college kids think they will make so much extra money? Because it is a fact. Do you want a picture? Go ahead and Google around. I am sure you are also going to tell me it is stupid to invest your money in anything over 4% payback too? And I think you totally lost my point, in your pointless rant somewhere in the middle of that jumble. As far as how you feel about the pricedrop, the general public, economy, and actual sales say otherwise.

Just to clearify, I am not saying that someone who chooses to not go to college is going to be a failure. Money is not the most important thing in the world and if you apply yourself you can still make a very decent wage. Just dont count on living big. I do know many people that havent gone to college and they will be fine. I also know people who didnt go and they will have a horrible life living off everyone around them with the debt building up every day. My point is that the table can sway either way. In my last post I forgot to add that if you seriously think that there is no point in having money when you die, that is incredibly selfish and rude. You are basically saying, as long as I am happy, everything will be fine. There are other people in the world. Especially to say that you wont even want your kids to get some money from you when you die, that is cold. Plan ahead. What if your wife outlives you? You dont care if she doesnt have enough retirement money to live off once you are gone? Adults have responsibilities and dont spend every penny on themselves. There are these things called families, charities, ect. I personally would never dream of saying such a thing as there is no point in having money when I die.

Uh...don't think it matters how old you are or what grade you are in. If you saw $50 on the ground you would pick it up. Saving is good and price cuts stimulate the competition. I wouldn't knock someone for trying to save a buck. Not everyone can afford a $400 console, but if you knock $50 off that could be the tipping point. You think maybe that's why companies offer coupons and sales and pricecuts? Just because you choose not to buy something doesn't mean you can't afford it, it means you are a frugal shopper and are willing to wait for the inevitable price cut. Good for you.

Is this story old? Xbox is selling for $279 in LA.
I am putting of buying a PS3 since it's just far too overpriced and I don't have an HDTV yet so there is no pressing need for a hi def DVD player.
Same thing happened with PS2. I think I'll be happier in the end that I waited 9 months and had the price drop $200 before jumping on board.

@slick612nkx, OK D0u<hb@g! I figure we should spend it on...I don't know the necessities? Food, clothing, shelter...you know stuff you don't care about cause you have your mommy to take care of you. The video game industry is not part of the economy. If it were to disappear right now, we would be just fine. Does the video game industry boost the economy? Of course, any GED wielding retard would know that but we certainly don't rely on it to keep it going. I love video games just as much as the next guy but it is just entertainment, not a necessity.

brandon, if you don't think that gas prices are destroying this economy then you are a complete moron. Not everyone has a ridiculous disposable income. Not only do we have to pay more in gas, but we have to pay more for groceries, clothing, hygienic products, consumer goods, furniture, etc....anything that has to be delivered some where because of high gas prices.

I understand, maybe you didnt catch on but I am a poor college kid without any money right now too. As I said, gas prices are going to be hard, but it is not nearly as big of a deal as many make it out to be. One good example would be my cousin. He is 17 right now and his parents make him pay for most all his stuff like gas, clothes, some food, ect. and while he might not have all the bills we have he manages to still put money in the bank at the end of the month. It does help that the general low end jobs are paying $8 an hour unlike the $4 an hour when I was a kid. My point is that if some stupid high school kid can pay for all that stuff AND save money for college, I am sure that everyone else will be perfectly fine.

Of course he has money, he doesn't have to worry about credit card bills, home and vehicle repairs, medical bills, expenses for children, rent/mortgage, etc... Mommy and daddy are still wiping his butt for him so try another example.
by brandonh33 June 17, 2008 1:22 PM PDT
@sobishop: Did you not read what I just said? He had to buy his own car, pay for insurance for it, pay for repairs, ect. Sure he doesnt have EVERY bill that we do but he is still just a kid with much less time to work than any adult, getting a smaller wage than (almost) any adult, putting more money into savings than the average adult, and not stupid enough to charge things to a high interest credit card. I am sure that with the money he is saving every month, he could manage to rent a lower end dorm in someones basement. Also if you have kids, then you have another spouse to help you out with all of those bills. So if you are going into dept because of a slightly higher monthly gas bill then you are doing something wrong because there are millions of families in the exact situation as you living with money to spare.

The way I see it you guys are all acting like 12 year olds, getting fired up like that instead of just leaving the subject alone... I think robvme is spot on wih his tippin point theory, smart thinking and all too right... There are still people with sense in this world... :) Now, me personally, I'm getting a bit disappointed with the whole console market nowadays. I've got a 360 on it's 3rd ROD, so it sucks, anyway you put it. I'd rather have them asking 50 bucks more for a console that is made as it should be, instead of dropping the price and making you live in fear everytime you put it on. Right?... The PS3 is more durable, but the library isn't that impressive (yet) if you ask me, and the movement on screen in some games just looks damn awful... I'm going back to my Dreamcast with vga cable, and my ps 1 and 2 with component. Both of with have some games that are worth playing more than all those crappy but o so shiny HD games. Persona, xenogears, parasite Eve, Okami, Ico, Suikoden and many others on playstation 1 and 2... Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Omikron, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Jet Set Radio, Rez, Ikaruga and many others on Dreamcast... So many games, so little time...

For the record, I know this article is old as hell now, being a business owner isn't like being a president or anything. We do curse, and do curse often. lol. But to say that people without degrees only make a lot of money in extreme circumstances is a load of bull. Every college student is brainwashed into thinking the only way they are worth something is to get your degree. While I'm not saying you shouldn't go to college, I am saying it isn't the only way to make bank in this world. And in the real world, you know where your over priced text books mean absolute crap, there is a lot of money to be made. Even in this garbage economy of ours.
