Comments on: What's next for Apple? We think it's the remote

After looking at what Apple has done in the past, there are some clues going forward. A good place to look is some of its older products, both software and hardware.

Nope, I don't think so. This is getting about as far away as you can from the build-the-whole widget approach that Apple takes in all its other products. A universal remote that has to work with a million and one different models out there is a Microsoft kind of 'open' system product. Apple will be spending resources disproportionately chasing after obscure ten year old receivers just to protect it's 'It just works!' brand DNA. Furthermore, remotes can never be a high-margin product like the iPod --I don't think there are enough people out there willing to spend 3 digits for an accessory that won't play music or video, won't surf the net, or won't even just display pictures. And please don't try to impress us with the $3Billion Logitech sales figure. What portion of that are universal remotes? Logitech is mostly mice, keyboards. Remotes would be what, 2%?

As tech trend spotting goes, this is one of the worst I've read in a long time.

I'd LOVE this.

If a touch/iPhone could control my iMac's iTunes library, using cloverflow and everything, that'd be just peachy. Perfect in fact.

Then I wouldn't have to get up and down to my mac to change songs. Yes I've got SallerClick but it's just not the same....
