Everyone I know calls Final Fantasy X : "Final Fantasy ess ex". When I first heard about Jason X, everyone called it "Jason ess ex"

I guess that's why I always referred Mac OS X as "Mac OS ess ex"

I'm trying to think of other "10th of a series" that people always call "X" but so far only Final Fantasy and Jason comes to mind :)

If it is on the page as OSX ore even OS X, it just seems right to say "eks". Honestly I think people are too easily offended.

OS Eks sounds so much cooler than OS Ten. And isn't that what Apple is all about, really? Coolness?

Hold the phone. This is not a pronunciation problem. It is "OS X", thus it must be OS eks. Is X pronounced "ten"? Really? So, what do you call those machines that scan bags at airports? The Xylophone? Simply, leopard and the like ARE OS 10, but that is a fact, the fact is, they write OS X. This is Roman numerals, right? They did not pronounce X as 'ten' or as 'x'. Thus, it must be English that defines pronunciation. If they go from OS 9 to OS X, that means to me that they have gone away from pronouncing it as ten. I'm okay with new WORDS, but new pronunciations- as a matter of course- unless they are going to quote Mark Twain in other contexts, then no way. It is OS Ten, but pronounced OS X. If you are a tech geek, then call it OS 10, but you are NOT pronouncing the X part of it. X means ten only symbolically, not phonetically. Unless Apple releases English Pronunciation, the application. Then that might change my mind.

Err, that's just silly. The X in Xylophone hardly helps your case (kinda sinks it).

If I create a product I can give it a silly name, and say it's said however I want! If this guy is supposed to be a tech reporter then he should accept this - if he wants to say most people say Mac Oh Ess Eks then fine, but to call the product one thing when the maker calls it something else because he's got some weird "thing" about it - well I think he needs help.

I mean really, if he can't even get the name of the product right...

What if we decided to get his name wrong - not because of a mistake, no just because we had a "thing about it". Pretty lame right?

English is full of odd you spell it one way, say it another (especially UK English). You want weird "how the heck do you say that?" names - let's talk about the "Asus eee PC" (said: "Ah-soose E Pee Cee").

Now it's fine, a mistake - we all make them (until I heard from someone at Asus I thought you said "E E E Pee Cee" - now I know better) but just deciding to call one product by a different name, that's stupid.

Mac OS X was always said 10 like the number.

Haha, nice! Silly fanboys deserve some crap.

I don't follow Apple stuff that closely, just what I come across in normal tech news, and I actually never realized "OS ten" and "OS X" were the same thing. Consequently.. I never really knew what "OS ten" was.. since the name is actually OS X, after all.

It's that attitude why I just can't stand that Mac user base.... they keep calling their computers "sexy" so lets just call it "Oh Sex" ;)

For a special extra touch to annoy mac fans, I prefer to call it "OS Eks Ten".

I AM a MAC USER. Even an ***enthusiastic*** MAc user, I love Macs and especially Logic Audio Pro.

But people writing about how to pronouce 'OS X' ?????????
I try to defend Mac lovers, saying they're not ALL tending to think they're a superior cast.

But HERE, I feel no ties whatsoever to those poor people... (who don't do much harm, either... but who are just stupid and agressive and arrogant lol )

Bottom line: you are sooooooooooo RIGHT to throw this back at them ;-)
You got the full support of a Mac user who couldn't care less about Oh Ess Tenn !!!

Cheers
