Seeing that the iMac has used socketed Intel processors for quite
some time now... does anyone know if Intel's new chips would
work as a "drop-in" item?

I mean, heck... the current iMacs use MXM slot video cards, have
sound card daughterboards... this could be fun!

:-)
Should be a major update

The currently design is a little old. I would expect an update to
the design with an LED display that would allow for even thinner
iMacs. A black version of the iMac or even a Product (RED) one
would be welcome too. Blu-ray should be offered at the high
end at least along with a BTO option of two disks in a RAID 0 or
RAID 1 configuration.

wishful thinking

Sounds good, but not going to happen any time soon. LED displays still cost too much. The only reason they've started to make it into laptops despite their cost is because of the power and size savings, which are not a major concern in desktops- and Apple appears to trying to stick to their current price point. As far as cramming another hard drive in there- they probably could make one fit somehow, but my biggest concern with these IMacs is overheating and that would be just another heat source. Electronics manufacturers seem to be almost universally ignoring overheating issues in the drive to pack a high powered product into a sexy little package (XBox 360 is just one of many examples).
Confusing story.

Are we talking about iMacs or eMacs?

PS. Even better than a new iMac...

PS. Even better than a new iMac would be a new iPhone. I know it is early, but please, please let it be an iPhone!
Just give me a plain old tower
by hounddoglgs April 25, 2008 7:07 AM PDT
I wish Apple would put out a standard desktop tower where I can add hard drives, pci cards, etc., and replace parts myself without major effort. Right now the only way to get that is to shell out $2500+ for a Mac Pro.
