For some reason, Antonioni's Zabriski Point is not on DVD. It was available from MGM in two NTSC CLV LaserDisc versions: 4:3 and letterbox discs.

The D.I.
Technical Sergeant Jim Moore (Jack Webb) is one of the toughest Drill Instructors on Parris Island. But he's got a thorn in his side: Pvt. Owens, (Don Dubbins) who always seems to foul up when the pressure's on. Convinced that "there's a man underneath that baby powder," Sgt. Moore drives Owens to the point of desertion. Making things worse, Capt. Anderson has given Moore three days to make the scared private into Marine material, "or I'll personally cut the lace off his panties and ship him out!" Adding to the pressure, Moore also juggles a budding romance with a shop girl. Written by Michael J. Hayde {mmeajv@earthlink.net}

One more reason to hang on to my collection of laseerdisc. Availability on DVD aside, there are some older movies in my collection (eg. caddyshack) that are just fine on the laserdisc format.

African Queen is out on DVD. I just watched it after checking it out at the public library about 2-3 weeks ago.

Frank's Place. Probably MIA because of music rights. Great Dramedy with Tim Ried as a law professor wh inherited his dad's restaurant in New Orleans. Won numerous awards and with only 22 episodes, it could all be on one set.

I keep waiting on all those light comedies from the 60's and early 70/s. One that comes to mind has James Garner as a spy whose cover is a fashion photographer. "Pink Jungle" I think, and then there is "Up the Creek" with Tim Matheson

I would like to see a copy of Eddie And The Cruisers II. on DVD. I actually thought it was more entertaining than the original. The music was pretty good, even if it did sound like Bruce Springsteen.

I've been looking for a copy of the original "1984" in any format for years. Movie guides list it as being released on VHS but I've never found it.
Some TV show releases don't make any sense at all. Law & Order: Criminal Intent saw the first and third seasons released a couple of years apart but it was a couple of more years before the second season came out. The following seasons have yet to be announced. NYPD Blue is another erratic release. First and second seasons were out for years before the third and fourth were finally released over a year ago. What about the last five seasons?

I want 'The Seven Per Cent Solution'. Nicol Williamson as Sherlock Holmes, Alan Arkin as Sigmund Freud, Robert Duvall as Watson (!). Great witty film, script by Nicholas Meyer. What happened to that?

Roundhouse from SNICK on nickelodeon was one of my favorite shows. I believe the reason it will not come out is because of the Music rights.

All said might be relevant or true, but why overlook an obvious reason: big business doesn't want to cut it's own throat by releasing stuff too early and maintaing higher price point for the gradual market that will eventually be buying blue-ray players. After all, the consumer is up to here with being forced into blue ray, and already having to cough up more and more money and many of us "old geezers" aren't ready to give up our libraries and players...thank you very much! Haven't you heard, there's a housing bubble, big layoffs and a recession?

I'm wondering when the TV series PEYTON PLACE will be released on DVD? Also the following Movies...VOYAGE OF THE DAMNED, BACK STREET, GARBO TALKS(A. Bancroft), PORGY AND BESS, STAIRCASE(R. Burton/R. Harrison), SUNDAY'S IN NEW YORK, UNDER THE YUM YUM TREE, A THOUSAND CLOWNS, MADAME ROSA(S. Signoret), MADAME SOUZASKA, LOOKING FOR MR. GOODBAR, YENTL, RAINTREE COUNTY, THE AFRICAN QUEEN and GAMES(S. Signoret/J. Caan/K. Ross)? And the Widescreen Versions of THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE(J. Nicholson/J. Lange), THE MIRROR HAS TWO FACES, BITE THE BULLET, SHIP OF FOOLS, ARTHUR and FATSO? Also AIRPORT by itself and not grouped with the other Airport movies? Anyone Know?
