I happen to be happy PS3 owner for the last month or so. I only have 2 games and yes it's a widely known fact that PS3 has fewer titles than XBox360. Every point you said also doesn't compare to the bottom line...that PS3 sales have outsold xbox360 for the past 2 months.
The expandability of the PS3 and its blu-ray capabilities set it on a different level. If you are a strict "gamer" and want to have the best games on the market, then by all means purchase an xbox. But if you have other means, like atching movies in HD and listening to the glorious sound 7.1 uncompressed sound then why not have a gaming machine attached to it with better graphics, free online game play and a soon-be-stellar game library (ahem, gran tourismo 5, metal gear solid 4...).
I think the majority of people are missing the bottom line that these two consoles are VERY different, I also prefer a system that will not die on me in 1 year with the fabled "ring of death". If Microsoft were a more reliable hardware manufacturer, they might actually have my vote.

Your missing the point of my post though. Sony is blurring the line between success of their video game division and their Blu Ray division. Most people are buying the PS3 because of Blu Ray. That screams more to the success of Blu Ray the the PS3 as a gaming machine. I was responding to the post in that regard. IMO it's only a matter of time before Blu Ray is added to the 360.

Also, free or not PS version of online community is free because it lacks the content available via Xbox Live. Also, evidentally the PS3's online service isn't hack free considering the news someone hacked in and stole information and spent money owned by other PS3 owners.

PS. I definitely plan on buying Blu Ray but I want a more up to date Chipset with better video codec decoding. There is just no incentive to buy a PS3 with better stand alones with the new Spec about to hit.

Hey dfichtner, you sound like a baby complaining about stupid things that don't add up to a real issue....Did you know you can hold the O/I button on the PS3 for 2-3 sec and it turns it off? Well, now you do...go have fun, your life issues are solved!

Anyway, I have had my PS3 for about a year now, and it is one of the best decisions (video game wise) I have made... I hated the PS2 for dying on me and not playing newer PS2 games...but Sony fixed their issues and paid their dues with the PS3.

PS3 is the way to be

I'm a huge movie buff, and not much of a gamer, really. This past Christmas, I got PS3 mostly because I wanted to be able to play Grand Theft Auto IV, and also to start watching Blu-Ray movies. Since I got my PS3, I'll tell you, I'm right into gaming now. I have 9 games for my PS3, and it is like being immersed into another world when playing these games. The Xbox will be obsolete in a year from now considering the storage capacity for a PS3 disc, and so while I agree, gaming wise, there are a lot more desirable titles on Xbox, in a year from now they will be nothing when developers start making their games with the PS3 in mind first and foremost. My stance is neutral in terms of these on-line features, my PS3 was updated to 2.20 the other day, but I only own Blade Runner, Blood Diamond, Pirates 3, and I Am Legend on BD, and none of these films have the supported online content. I really don't pay much attention to that stuff. There's talk that DLC will ulitmately win because there isnt enough difference between BD and DVD, but I tell you, I watched half of Atonement (regular DVD) in my PS3 last week, and the other half in a regular DVD player. The PS3 up converts picture on a regular DVD, and the image quality compared to the DVD player was ten fold. The more people are able to interact with these things, the more people will see the differences. Blu-Ray is a great technology, and the PS3 is the ultimate entertainment console. Trust me, if you pick one up and aren't a gamer, you'll become one, and if you are an avid movie watcher, you'll appreciate just how great looking and sounding these discs are.

I loved my PS3 from the day i got it (release day in NZ) and it still love it now. There aren't a huge amount of games i'm into, but gaming isnt the only reason i got one (i'm more of a casual-partime gamer).

The update is okay, but what the PS3 really needs is a cable card and the capability to be a DVR. This would make the ultimate home media center. Add in Sony's location free (slingbox), and the PS3 would be truly untouchable. Come on Sony, make it happen!!!!!

I'm shopping for a home theater system, and all my components will be DTS-HD and Dolby true HD ready, I'm interested to buy a PS3 as my BDplayer, but I'm still waiting Sony confirmation to support these features to make my decision.

Great!!! PS3 Best Gaming Console Ever!!! As soon as i bought my PS3 all my mates said it was crap and man i'm proving them so wrong. They all think that the Xbox 360 is the best gaming console but after they've tried the PS3 they soon change there mind.

The 2.20 fw has broken the UPnP media player functionality. The videos now sputter. There are a lot of PS3 users complaining about it myself included.

I purchased my PS3 80GB as a combo deal at Best Buy. It was icing on the cake because the HDTV was my real interest. But connecting the PS3 to my home wireless network and being able to access content on any of three computers in the house is awesome. It does so much I got my monies worth and some, not to mention the Bluray picture on my 52" Samsung is priceless.
