Comments on: Test-build your Lego masterpiece digitally

Do-it-yourself magazines and basement-brewed steampunk anachronisms might be at the forefront of home engineering projects, but 50-year-old Lego is still the name builders know best. Now you can play with Lego on your computer with Lego Digital Designer.

Hey, all. The links for the Windows (http://www.download.com/LEGO-Digital-Designer/3000-2191_4-10813142.html) and Mac (http://www.download.com/LEGO-Digital-Designer/3000-2180_4-10813145.html) versions are in the 2nd paragraph, under the big picture.

Also, I believe it even has the ability to create instructions on how to build your creation. So you can make it for real or share it with others!

This version of Lego DD only works on Windows XP. Try downloading LDD version
1.6, that may work on Vista.

This version of Lego DD only works on Windows XP or Mac OS10. Try downloading the LDD version 1.6 if you have an older OS. Here's the link: http://ldd.lego.com/download/archive.aspx

I'd just like to say it's Lego plain and simple. Not Legos. You would not say "I am going to play with my Legos" just lego! There was non of this legos nonsense in my day! Grumble...grumble!! :p

Actually, this version of LDD works on Vista and XP - I tested it on both.

Another nice aspect of LDD is the number of models built by kids (& rather bigger kids!) that are available on-line. For instance, LEGO MINDSTORMS "NXTlog" site now has literally 1000's of LDD files of various robots available. Personally I know there are more powerful programs out there for "virtual LEGO", but the ease of install and maintenance sold me, and I tend to document complex robotics projects now in both pictures... and finally digitally, under LDD.

I've moved the links so they're above the first screenshot. Thanks to those who pointed out that it was hard to find. If you don't see the links in the first paragraph, be sure to dump your browser's cache.

Whenever I try to drop a block in place, the block moves as soon as I move the mouse. It was so frustrating that I uninstalled the software. What a disappointment!
