Hold on, folks...

There is something quite noteworthy in the post, which is buried deep in the middle of it.

"While previously the iPhone would let you send a text message to just one person at a time, today's update will allow you to send a message to several people simultaneously."

Is this true? I mean, is it not a joke?
You couldnīt send a sms to multiple recipients in a single go?

Really? 600 dollars [even 400] and one of the most used features worldwide, and by far the most time saving, and could not be used until now???????????????

Mate, that is just shameful.

Future updates on current 8 gig model?
by kristcnj January 15, 2008 4:03 PM PST
I agree with the need for some additional features but I'm curious which can be accomplished by a software update via iTunes and which would require a new model.

I would imagine picture messaging and video capture could be completely software driven and a possible upgrade to the current model but stereo bluetooth and 3g are probably v2.0 features no?

location service... how about real gps?!
by mattuw January 15, 2008 5:27 PM PST
Okay, couple comments:

1) the location service is not actually GPS or back-door GPS. The hardware in the phone uses information from the cell towers (which are closely spaced due to the short distance of travel of cell wavelengths) to determine an approximate location. It is good for getting directions or having an IDEA where you are at if totally lost. Real GPS is much more accurate (you are at this intersection..."turn right"). Maybe off by a couple hundred feet at the worst.

This brings me to number 2.

2) I don't hear anyone complaining about the limited bluetooth capabilities of the phone other than stereo bluetooth (kind of funny having an ipod that is only mono on bluetooth headphones). Bluetooth GPS devices can be picked up for $50 online these days. They just sit on your dash, get charged periodically, and send GPS data to your phone via bluetooth. Once configured with google maps it is way better than the "Location" feature. You can take the Bluetooth GPS with you, all sorts of potential uses.

clarification...
by glen engelmann January 16, 2008 6:59 AM PST
the new home page is not limited to 2 screens. NINE screens with 16 icons
each are now possible. also you do not need to fill up one screen to access
another screen. this makes it very easy to sort like icons on the same screen.

also. why is everyone so negative. sure the iphone is missing certain
features. but over time apple can add those features. noone else can add the
features that make the iphone so special like the multitouch screen and the
mac os.

so, once apple adds video camera, 3g, gps and stereo bluetooth what
possible reason could there be to buy any other phone...

let me see... sheer beauty?
by bleech January 16, 2008 2:53 PM PST
I mean, once that apple adds such features to the phone, you will probably get to know the finals of the 2012 Olympics.

And, it will be a new phone.
Come on, it is not a good looking device.
Sorry.
And on top of that, it lacks basic features [or even lacked features].

Reasons? about 50, which are the rest of the handsets that are better looking, work better AND allow you multiple messaging.

Think a little bit.
"I bought a sportscar which handles amazingly, can win races on the trot in the future, is quite capacious, kind of spunky but for "politically correct" people -hence, lacks of real spunk- BUT, doesnīt have calipers. I will be able to add them on later, when I pay for them and they are developed".

God, humankind is verging being stupid.
update..... LOL

"Better SMS This may be the most basic part of the update but it's the one that I'm most excited about. While previously the iPhone would let you send a text message to just one person at a time, today's update will allow you to send a message to several people simultaneously"

AHHAHAHAHA What a joke. They are just getting the ability to send the same txt to multiple people. HAHAHAHAH losers!!!!!

Why iPhone 1.0 Doesn't have every feature
by calancaster January 18, 2008 5:43 PM PST
Why would Apple release the iPhone with every feature people are looking for? If they did, then there would be no reason for people to "upgrade" to iPhone 2.0. I think a lot of the features everyone is waiting for will appear in the 3G model. Then everyone will need/want to fork over another $500-$600 for the "new and improved" model. It seems to us that most of the "missing" features are no brainers. But Steve's a smart man. It's all about product life-cycle and marketing.

Bluetooth Clobbered
by jc819 January 18, 2008 6:19 PM PST
I updated my iPhone to 1.1.3 and it clobbered my Bluetooth connection. I use a Garmin 660 for my hands free mobile phone. Now we have to wait for a patch. Are Jobs and Gates related?
