Verizon had their chance at the iPhone & said "no thanks" because they did not want to agree to Apple's terms regarding software on the iPhone, revenue sharing, etc.
NOW with competition from Google, Apple & future auction of airwaves...BINGO!
Typical Fat Cat Big Business short sightedness who come to the party late & then want to be a party pooper or a "me too - me too!" business model..ala MS.

- I'll believe Verizon will develop a customer-centered policy when they do it, and not before. I have an iPhone now and am switching my Verizon five line family plan to ATT when my 2 year commitment is complete.
