Since the stupid gene is running rampant in this thread, I'll point out what even a 5th grader should have picked out from reading this article.

Drives manufactured by 3rd parties are failing.

In case anyone is completely and utterly incapable of exhibiting even the most basic of reading comprehension skills, let me add that Apple does not manufacture hard drives, but that hard drives built by a company that is not Apple are failing.

Still feel like embarrassing yourself? Post again how drives assembled by companies that aren't Apple are indicative of Apple's failures, and I'll happily poke more holes in your flawed;
1) Reading skills and
2) Logic (and oh! how I loathe applying that word to your sloppy thought processes)

Now... that being said, Apple is responsible for repairing the computers that they've sold, and Apple HAS been repairing EVERY SINGLE HARD DRIVE FAILURE that has occurred within the warranty period.

Lastly,

I work IT. We service Compaq/HP, Toshiba and Dell. If you're telling me that hard drive failures aren't happening outside Apple, you're a buffoon.

People are testifying for their experience and you keep going with your remarks.
How on earth can you know that Apple's machines are not failing more than the others?
Did you check all faulty computers in the world? Do you have the correct statistics? No.
Did you even try to compare the percentage of people that bought an Apple computer and the percentage of failures? I bet you didn't. but yet you have the nerve to keep offending people here. If Apple would have cared, one may have thought that you have ownership in this company

My hard drive was a fujitsu on a Macbook Black. It wasn't quite two years old when it passed away. I switched to Mac because I was told they were more reliable but my experience has been an absolute nightmare. Of course Apple are responsible for selling computers that are not up to even basic standards no matter who made the parts APPLE uses.

My fiance's just went **** up and it is a seagate with the 7.01 firmware revision. I think Apple should buck up for this since it is common for macbooks with the seagate 7.01 FWR.
Thank God it is easy to access the HD to replace. I will be getting a new one here hopefully over the turkey day holidays.
Come on Apple. Foot the bill on this one.

My 160 GB Hitachi HD died after 13 months. I received another for free under an extended warranty. I did not have apple care. The service at my local Apple store was good. Now, about 4 months after getting the replacement drive, it seems to be having problems and I anticipate another HD crash. Hopefully they will replace that one for free too. If not, I will be quite upset and highly disappointed with Apple. It seems they are aware of the problem.

I have my Macbook for about a year and 4 months. the hard drive failed and i replaced it myself, seeing that i didnt purchase the the extended applecare warranty. I purchased the Western Digital 120GB SATA Notebook Hard Drive, and installed it myself. it is much better than the Hitachi Hard Drive that came with the Macbook. It is much quieter and serves its purpose in addition it is cheaper than the Hitachi. Apple could have done better with there hard drive selection.
