and it works fine. I can browse the web and manage movies easily. The only problem is the battery life which lasts only about an hour and a half.

Dan, people need to heed your advice. Not all computers are made equal - and laptops really display this fact. If people are going to sit in front of the TV and surf the net patiently, then one of the cheap laptops will do. But if they have been using a decent desktop at home or work, they'll be mad when they use the slow laptop. I think the basic test is this - don't accept less of a configuration on you laptop than you have on the desktop you like. I'm with you - I wish someone would give us dual core,2+gigs of memory and a good DVD burner - and if you'll let me dream, Windows XP - for under $400. I think they would sell and peole would be happy with the performace.

Incidentally. PC World had an article on 2008 Black Friday and mentioned
http://www.2008BlackFridayAds.com I checked them out. They are posting 2008 Black Friday Ads plus good deals you can buy now. I picked up a GPS and a friend of mine got a Wii. I'm visiting the site often, hoping to snag a laptop from a featured deal or one of their links. Again, you wrote a great article. Take care.

And I happen to know a black friday shopping guide site. The unique point is
You can do keywords, stores, price searching there, which is quite useful.

I saw a toshiba satellite L 305D-S5897 in walmart for $548. It seems a pretty good deal. It has 4GB of memory, 250 HD and AMD turion x2. Also on best buy they have a deal for a toshiba satellite 305D, dont know if is the same for 379.99 with 3GB and 160HD with i believe same processor. They also have the option of 4GB and 250 HD for $479.96. These deal seems a little bit better since is basically the same configuration as the walmart one just cheaper. The components of the computer seems great the only think that seems to simple is the case of the computer seems a bit cheap. I was wondering if anyone know it this is suppose to be a good deal or just an ok deal.

Hi,
ASUS is expected to launch a new portable computer system that will bring forth a rather futuristic design, boasting a sliding keyboard. The laptop, which is still in its conceptual stage, hasn't yet been featured with a full technical specification sheet.

Sometimes we try to save too much money - and then sink a few hundred bucks into something we end up hating. I suggest your laptop have a dual core processor and 4 Gb of memory. It will be fast and eliminate any potential frustrations with slowness. Incidentally, there is a new site http://blackfridayads2009.info that seems to have a long list of stores, scans of the ads and hot deals available now. I used it to buy a GPS for only $79! Check it out for a laptop deal.

Hmmm, for me one of these, particularly the WalMart one is likely to be a step up, especially ifn i run Linux on it. Right now my only system is a G4 Mac mini, and with my new job, a lap top would be a plus. I do wonder ifn i can get it to run Vista or 7, after playing with it, i have to admit that i could almost like it... but only almost. ;)
