He is...

A musician who was popular in the mid 1980's with several hit songs, he also appeared as the star in a movie titled after one of his songs "Purple Rain." Shortly after his career began to slide, he changed his name from Prince to "the artist" but was commonly called "the artist formely known as Prince." I believe he is once again known as Prince. His career has continued to slide and he's pretty much been an obscure musician for quite awhile.

I suppose he'll now be refered to as "the Prince who formerly was an artist."
Let Him Sue!!

I say good for him! He obviously forgot how he became famous in the first place. It was his fans word of mouth and poster ads when he was a barely known, Michael Jackson teen age wanna be in tiny Minneapolis that made him into an international icon. Now it appears he wants to reduced to being an obscure recluse, money hungry, sap sucking, fat, old, greedy, clueless, michellen man. Well, I say good then! We don't need to download or post anything of yours and you don't need our money either!!

He's really lost it, hasn't he?

Ok, I sometimes listen to his latest albums, but musically, the're nowhere close to the old work. Seems to me he lost his touch a few years ago.

Now I'm sure he's goin' insane. Poor guy...

I am not a Prince superfan but I know what talent is and he has been at the cutting edge of music for a long time. Currently, he is one of the leading advocates of delivering music to the masses without the overarching influences of greedy record labels. For a while he walked around with "slave" written on his cheek because his record label was messing with his artistic license. He also recently handed out his album to everyone who attended his live performances. The guy is legit. Are you critics expecting broke-ass startup bands to sue The Pirate Bay and other folk who are making it more difficult for new artists to ever make a living doing what they love?

The dude's a legend as far as I'm concerned--from Wikipedia: In the 1980s and early 1990s, Prince was romantically linked to many celebrities, including Vanity (also known as Denise Matthews), Madonna, Sheila E, Anna Fantastic,Carmen Electra,Kirstie Alley, Whitney Houston, Apollonia Kotero, Kim Basinger, Sheena Easton, Troy Beyer, Susanna Hoffs and Nona Gaye. He married his backup singer and dancer, Mayte Garcia on Valentine's Day, 1996

C'mon people, Tommy Lee was married to Pamela Anderson and now he has Prince's seconds. Some respect, please. So before you write your stupid little comment, think about whether you can get tens of thousands of people at the next Super Bowl screaming and singing to your music.

First of all, Prince was once a good artist. However, that was 20 years ago. I would not purchase his product from a store or online. If I want one song, I will not go through the trouble of paying for it. Therefore, if most feel this way he will still be a has been and he will continue not to make any money. Additionally, he is now pissing all over his fans that probably are poor working class gen xers. I hear the echo of boycott... American people and everywhere else send purple literal dinosaur a message. 7 years is long enough to have made money off of copywrited material. Reinstate the public domain laws to the way the way they were intended to be used not for perpetual eternal income until the end of time. Disney is guilty of this as well. Greedy artist have forgotten that music and creative works are intended to enhance everyone's lives. That includes people with and without money. Copywrite Laws were not created by the people, they were created by corporations and those making money. We need to change this! We need to tell the artist and the the corporations that WE decide not them what is the best interest of everyone.

Lets just create a boycott on prince downloads, stop sharing him and watch what happens..he has probably made millions of dollars already off of peer sharing that he obviously is un aware of,..example..I download a prince song, play a prince song for a friend..nine out of ten times if someone really likes an album they will go buy the real thing...at least thats what i've seen. You can't have the sound quality of the real thing with file compression, and you get the physical artwork..come on prince your rich enough.
