New type of heavy duty Lithium Ion Batteries doesn't blow up.
by M.Hat October 30, 2007 11:35 AM PDT
The Altair Lithium Ion Nanosafe battery can't blow up and it has a very high energy density--much, much greater than the old lead acid batteries. The Li Ion Nanosafe battery is going to be used (2008) in the Phoenix electric trucks as the only motive source. The Lithium batteries that blew up in the recent past were little ones used in computers. They used a completely different technology.

Cheers, M.Hat

Safe new lithium batteries
by edulmes October 30, 2007 12:24 PM PDT
Valence Technologies' new technology, lithium phosphate (Saphion) batteries, are extremely safe also. They are much more powerful and higher energy density than lead acid, and do not burn or explode like conventional lithium ion batteries. They even have a safety video on their site demonstrating how you can shoot an M855 5.65mm round at it, and it will not burn or explode.

Cool. Could you be more specific as to why some of the Lithium batteries blew up and why these don't. It's important to get information out there for consumers. Thanks for your comment.
