Who can make open drivers fastest? Can IBM, freescale, and AMD work together to compete more effectively with Intel? Might we see AMD PPC chips or cell processors for the desktop?

ka-ching and # of brains in comparison to Intel. AMD did their best, but Intel is just too much.

Intel can afford to invest in project that could fail, AMD can't
Intel can trash all the processor that failed QA, AMD had to made them 3 core.

AMD needs back up. The story of David & Goliath may very well ends here

I have had a few AMD machines and a few Intel Machines. Speed aside, I have always had problems with applications and other issues with AMD processors. Personally I find the AMD product frustrating compared to the Intel experience.

Everything has always worked as expected on the Intel Machines. I will never buy or recommend a AMD processor.

Ford vs Chevy. Competition is good and I wish AMD well, however, I an sold on Intel.

How much time and damage to the environment (use of power and cooling) did the Pentium 4 fiasco cost?
Why did it take so long for Intel to return to a sane design?
And now they finally copy a decent memory interface.
My core2 duo has a slower memory bus than my five year old Mac.
