Web sites launch all the time, but they also shut their doors. We highlight 15 that bit the dust this year.
Let the debate begin: Was the iPhone more important than iTunes? Was anything bigger than Google finding a great business model? CNET offers its list of the 10 most important stories of the '00s.
If the HD format wars were over and Blu-Ray an official winner I would have more interest. Unfortunately, although I have accumulated lots of Sony stuff over the years (including the original Walkman) I know that they take an eccentric proprietary aproach to things like inventing the MemoryStick to compete with SD cards. They are incredibly stubborn, so if they do not Win for format wars, the war will go on forever. There's not much incentive for me to buy any Hi-Def DVD format when I have an existing datbase of nearly 2000 regular dvds. I lucked out when I bet against Sony and bought an RCA VHS Recorder in 1978. There is no incentive to make any decision now because regular DVD remains a viable alternative until one HD format dominates.
I also have numerous other disparate bits of technology like digital audio collections and streaming video equipment, and a PDA/Cellphone. Sometimes it's just too complicated for this aging BabyBoomer.
When Sony has completed integrating all those elements into the PS3 (or by then the PS4 or PS5) *I* will have an incentive to get one unit that combines all those elements and simplifies my life.
The sooner, the better.

- How would this work?

- Does anyone know how this would work? I'm not very familiar with DVR/Tivo. Would this be a firmware update or an actual piece of hardware? Would be it something built into new systems only or would it be something you could buy seperately. I think it sounds like a great idea. I have been planning on buying a PS3 in the near future but if this is something that will only be on newer models then I will probably wait.
