The Cheapest Laptop in the World. $150
by fpetri August 1, 2007 7:46 PM PDT
I received an article from CNET earlier on the Cheapest Laptop in the world for $150 and went to all the links in the article and I could never find where to actually place an order. One of the links did take me to the company where I found another link to another company that stated that the laptop had been taken off the market and was not available anymore. What we need from you is an actual link to order the $150 laptop from if it is a legitimate item. Your article reminds me of the newspaper story where the Chihuahua saved the child from a rattlesnake by jumping between the snake and the child and taking the bite from the snake. Great story, but I wanted to know if the dog lived and it was not mentioned. Well I want to know where to order the laptop and not just directions to a link that is not user friendly.

I would buy it as a disposable

solution to all the places I couldn't (or wouldn't) take an expensive laptop - like camping, or commuting.

I think I bought this computer in 2005
by rsbruner August 1, 2007 8:06 PM PDT
This looks and sounds exactly like an Acer Aspire 3603 I bought at a BestBuy Black Friday sale in 2005 for $499. I had to add 1Gb of memory to really make it useful.

Emailed the shipper for the medison $150 laptop.
by arcangel1 August 1, 2007 8:15 PM PDT
MK electronics is the shipper for the Medison $150 laptop. Went on the website and it looks like a pretty good deal. I read they couldn't be accurate on shipping dates because they are waiting for the orders to accumulate. They don't just ship one laptop. My understanding is how soon they ship is dependant on how many orders they receive.

150 laptop

SOUNDS GREAT!! This is exactly the sort of laptop I would take along on trips. If it gets lost or dropped you are not out much money, you can edit your pictures, write a letter, or surf the internet. This is 90% of what I do anyway. It also runs my favorite OS, so what's not to like? I can leave my fancy $2000 laptop at home and not worry about breaking the darned thing in some airport! ;-) Bob B

Cheap Laptop "You will get what you pay for"
by Gorn Captain August 1, 2007 8:37 PM PDT
No company in thier right mind will sell you a Laptop for $150.
If they do then it's most likely refurbished parts.

A Laptop needs to have at least 512mb to 1gig ddr 333mhz or ddr2 memory or better , 80gig hard drive "or 120gig" 5400rpm or better, 128mb or better graphics dd, expandable memory slot, decent display size 15" or bigger, decent cpu and motherboard, dvdrw drive 'removable", usb ports, ethernet port, slots forremovable media "ie" camera, and such.

with all that said take a look at the sales on the internet and you will see that most wont have all of this and if they do its refurbished.

if it turns out that the $150 Laptop has all this then i might just get 3 or 4 for everyone at home.

You obviously didn't read past the 150 price tag or you would have seen that you don't need the 512 memory. It runs the Linux OS.

Glad to See Asian Prices in the USA!
by vineta121 August 1, 2007 8:42 PM PDT
As an immigrant from Hong Kong, I always purchased my electronics when I visit my family there. Up until year 2005, the prices there was about 45% of similar/identical items sold in the USA.

Nowadays, one can only get those prices in auctions (not the internet auctions, but the in-person old school kind), which is still pretty cool.

I hope this laptop would be a new beginning of a "revolution" against the ridiculously priced electronics.

If true, they beat Negroponte and Intel... game over for both of them. Please God don't let this be a hoax, or a failed business plan!!!

Would be happy to buy and resel with perhaps a 512
by shsdarwin August 1, 2007 8:55 PM PDT
If this product offer is true, I would have no problems buying it and reselling it with perhaps a little more RAM.

I get a large number of requests for 'cheap second hand laptops' from customers just wanting to do some internet / email /word processing stuff.

This product would be fantastic for these people. Instead of a second hand one they would be able to have a brand new machine that does all the above.
